PHOTOS: A Display of Local & International Cuisine At The Accra Premium Food Festival
Food festival!! Accra has been filled with many events these past two months. From ChaleWote to The Ghana Garden & Flower Show, each event brought with it its own delightful content ranging from artworks, cultural music, local greenery and natural hairstyles. And now the city experienced food of all kinds at the Accra Premium Food Festival.
The two-day festival by Accra Premium was held at Alliance Francais and it was a busy people-packed event with food vendors enticing us with mouth-watering food.
20 cedis for gaining entrance was a bit steep I would say especially if one is going to be buying food as well. I had friends enquiring about the gate fee and on hearing what it was decided not to attend. It was almost amusing to hear two women whispering to each other as they passed by some sandwiches that they were surprised that the food tasting wasn't free. Well neither was the wine tasting which a vendor told me was between GHC 8 and GHC 30. 30 cedis to taste wine? I walked away with a bemused smile. Ah well its a premium event so lets chill.
Meeting other foodies like Cookie from Cookie Cakes was a great networking opportunity. She owes me a tasting of her chocolate fudges and cakes.
Indeed there was food everywhere. Evive cakes did share some lovely sample bites of their cakes.
Drinks vendors such as Ron Zacapa upped their game with pineapple containers for their cocktails.
There was a good blend of natural hair product vendors, automobile vendors and more restaurants on almost every corner.
The array of foods ranged from burgers, local dishes, shawarma's , cakes and other munchies. People were carrying food or had busy mouths just as expected!
My favourite stand was the Airport View Hotel which served local and authentic dishes in earthenware pots. An unavoidable sight to which one is easily attracted to. I tried the Ayikpl3 which to my utmost delight was simply delicious! This is a dish from the Volta Region is made from beans, corn meal and coconut milk and served traditionally with anchovy sauce. It is a must-try!
The staff were friendly and gave good portions as well (The Ghanaian size) Why aren't we having more of this meal in our restaurants?
There was great highlife music to accompany all this great food!
Running into naturalista's is always priceless at events now.
Wanjo foods kept drawing more people as usual to her fresh bissap and tamarind juice.
Restaurants in Ghana spring up faster than any other local buildings. Especially the foreign ones. Come to Osu and its easy to find Indian, Turkish, Chinese to Lebanese restaurants on almost every corner. Fast and junk food restaurants are also on the rise.
Some vendors showcased cooking equipment which cook food healthier with little or no oil whilst also displaying smoothie makers for the health conscious Ghanaian.
